A license to drive can make significant differences in a person’s life. Many communities lack an efficient public transportation system so getting around for necessary tasks means access to a car. People who have to do their grocery shopping without access to a car have to limit the amount of groceries they buy on a trip to the supermarket. A trip to the local dentist is a necessity, but without a car a trip for a dental treatment might take a couple of hours extra. A trip to school on the bus is not quite as much fun as driving there on your own once you reach the legal driving age.

Access to a car is one hurdle to the joys that come with the right to drive, but everyone has to obtain a license to drive before they can drive that car legally. There are usually two parts to getting that license to drive. The first step is learning the rules of the road and passing a test to demonstrate that you know those rules. The second step is getting behind the wheel with a state official to demonstrate that you can drive a car safely and competently.
